Although in production in the 30s, I often wonder how widespread they would have been in the UK without the 70s energy crisis? Even in our little town, (that was a Mecca for LPS in the 80s), mercury lamps were still the preferred choice for street lighting BEFORE the energy crisis happened. I often wondered whether we would have kept our mercs if it would never have happened?
