I am working as a 3D artist.At one occasion, I was working in a program called Autodesk 3Ds Max on a huge project. We were working on photorealistic footage of a city. The project included thousands of high polygon 3D models (you can Google what this means) and hundreds of high resolution textures (lots of 4k and 8k textures - large image file sizes, plus hundreds of smaller textures). Client wanted a top notch quality.Just having the scene (project) open in the program would take about 30GB of RAM.Now, take into the account how much RAM takes program itself while running, plus several tabs in Google Chrome, Photoshop with files containing hundreds of layers, OS, drivers, etc. - all running at the same time! :) I had nearly 60 GB RAM usage while working.Now, when you need to render such a heavy scene, 3ds Max would crash right away using only 16GB of RAM. :)Luckily, my workstation is equipped with 128 GB of RAM and AMD Threadripper CPU, which makes it a pleasure to work with. In most cases, I feel 32GB could be adequate for my work, but not all of it. This way, Im ready for some serious projects. 64GB at least!!With a workstation having only 16GB of RAM I would not have a tool to earn my income doing what I do.
